DESIGN COMPETITION // FRONT ROW SOCIETY 0 NAIVE TRIBALISM

CREATIVE BRIEF

Submission Deadline: 15 December, 2014, 6pm CET
Voting Starts: 16 December, 2014, 6pm CET

It’s that time of year again: the Berlin skies have turned a stubborn gray, a chilly wind has started to blow unceasingly, and the beautiful colors of fall are starting to give way to the monochromatic coldness of winter. So let’s leave the real world behind and venture forth on another one of our exciting explorations, shall we?

Yes for this month’s “Naive Tribalism” challenge we’re asking you to explore the striking patterns and sumptuous colors of tribal artworks. Think crudely drawn markings and simple patterns, rough etchings of tropical flowers and wildlife, and the lush swampy colors of the heart of the jungle.

This competition is for scarves. As always, don’t forget that your print might need to be adjusted to fit the appropriate template. All templates are marked with design specifications to help you get your design just right. Please note that all Front Row Society templates may differ slightly from final manufacturing specifications, so make sure your print is versatile and flexible enough for production.

What can you win?

Each winner receives a one-off immediate prize of 200€ . plus one of their products when it arrives in stock. But that is not all - each & every time we sell 500 pieces of your design, you will receive an additional €200. This means that FRS can continue to embody the spirit of fashion democracy, rewarding our top designs again...and again...and again! We will also conduct an interview with the winner, publicizing their design across the fashion community in Berlin and worldwide.

TRENDS // FASHION SNOOPS - S/S 2016 ACTIVE

Here is a preview of FASHION SNOOPS',  S/S 2016 ACTIVEWEAR.  To order a copy of the report, go here.

    VERTIGO

We kick off the Spring 2016 forecasts with Vertigo, dizzying visuals and good vibes in a delirious mashup, topped off with a sweet and sassy attitude. Retro shapes inspired by 60s kitsch swimwear get modernized by mixed media materials, while playful, overtly flirty details get slapped with snarky message graphics.

Seaside inspiration comes from beach bunnies galore. With cheeky and nostalgic surf style shapes like foamy high-waisted bottoms and flirty bras dominating key items and hazy cotton candy hues clashing with poppy watermelon and cherry red.

GRAPHICS
1. Bad gals 2. Airbrushing 3. Nostalgic neon 4. Sweet and Sassy 5. Apathy 6-7. Tattooed and Tweaked Icons

    MUD

MUD is movement under distress. For our third active forecast this season, we focus on the primal state of stability within extreme conditions deriving from baja racing, beach volleyball and mudder races. A fusion of dry environments and sweat.

Dirt and mud terrains of mining camps, outdoors trails, mudder obstacles, canyons and ancient cemeteries create a perspective of moving forms that prove to be more than a landscape but the natural strokes of a living man made artist expression. The depth of color, organic movement of shapes and macro level functionality that it generates all can be translated into design features that coexist with the warrior spirit and articulation.

GRAPHICS
1. Letter integrated net print 2. Atlas map 3. Thermal heat 4. Tough letter logo / wrap around print 5. Peel away beauty 6. Rock mosaic 7. Fingerpaint warrior

TRENDS // ECLECTIC TRENDS - A/W 2016/17 GLOBAL COLOR RESEARCH . SELF EXPRESSION - PART III

From our FV contributor, Gudy Herder of Eclectic Trends who is based in Barcelona working as an Interior Stylist, Trend Observer and Trainer.  Her website Eclectic Trends is full of interior and trend inspirations,   http://eclectictrends.com.

Don't forget to also sign up for her Moodboarding Workshops at the following locations if you're in town in London Nov 8th/9th and in Barcelona Nov 14th, you can find additional info on her site.

Dear Fashion Vignette readers,
it’s Gudy again from Eclectic Trends and I am writing today the third chapter about my trend presentation I did for Global Color Research in London. This theme is interesting since it’s all about self-expression and the way we like to customize our objects such as fashion or furniture pieces. It just feels good to be able to identify with your very own style. I hope you enjoy the report and feel free to drop me a comment, I’d like to love to hear your opinion.

Warm regards, Gudy

This is already the third part of my AW 2016/17 trend presentation for Global Color Research and Trend Talk at the Meet The Blogger event in Barcelona. I hope you enjoyed my last AW 2016/17 trend post WONDERLAND ( here ) and SCANNED (here), which had been the favorite among my readers. I’d love to hear your opinion too.
This theme is about SELF EXPRESSION.
Its inspiration comes from the 80s where Ettore Sottsass being in his 60s gathered a group of really young designers and architects to create a non conformist approach with bright, colorful and quite shocking pieces. This was the beginning of Memphis Design.

COLLAGE reflects optimism and has a playful and energetic feel encouraging you to cut and paste your own style. It’s an artsy thinking.

Customization is huge, the idea of adding your own brush strokes on your garments becomes very appealing. Or you can build up and stack your own furnitures creating personal designs (i.g. Lago).

You have graphics such as dots, grids, stains but all very irregular are keywords here.
