     BLACK AND WHITE TRIBAL

While there’s nothing necessarily groundbreaking about this one, a good monochromatic tribal geometric group is essential for your Spring 2015 collection. Experiment with scale and technique for ways to keep this trend looking fresh. Check out the spring shows from L.A.M.B.Adam LippesNanette Lepore, and Ulla Johnson for more great examples.

    JUNGLE RHYTHM

Tropical leaf prints have been steadily growing in popularity over the last year or so, and if you follow our Leafy pinterest board you will need no proof of this. And if the Spring runway shows have any sway, they won’t be going away anytime soon. In fact, this board was a little hard to make only because there were so many great runway designs to choose from, it was difficult to decide which to use! Check out the spring shows fromJosie NatoriTomas MaierNicole Miller and Matthew Williamson to get more ideas on how to approach this trend.

   MOD SQUAD

One of our absolute favorite eras in textile design turned out to be a major theme on the runway this season; the groovin’ 60s and 70s. Today we’re featuring quirky geos that would give any Mod a good flashback. For additional examples of this hip trend, check out collections from Trina Turk and Orla Kiely.

   OFF BEAT ORIENTAL BLOOMS
Flowers of the Orient are reworked with a modern eye, infusing Spring/Summer 2016 apparel with an organic edge of sophistication. Botanical blossoms stand out in large sizes at Christopher Kane, as sheer layering makes for double the fun at Jonathan Saunders. At Temperley London, delicate florals materialize in multiple scales and come fused with leopard print paneling.

    THE NEW DAISY
Sweet daisy florals toughen up to embody a more urban edge, as interpreted through stark colorways, outlines and graphic print overlays. Clean white blooms flourish on sporty Stella McCartney tees, as Chanel goes 3D with beaded embellishment on white tops. Cushnie et Ochs taps into a more artistic mood with hand-drawn doodles on an asymmetric shape.

  • Calfskin with floral designs
  • Velvet-printed suede
  • Semi-dull lacquer with porcelain-effect

ORGANIC INSPIRATION

    CUT IT OUT

Cut paper collages we’ve been seeing more and more of over the past few months. It’s a fantastic way to mix prints and show off your knowledge of other popular textile trends; think of it as the crazier version of the Block Party trend we highlighted last week. If this look is to over-the-top for your client base, simplify it by using prints with a smaller scale, and limiting the number of colors used in the overall design.

    DAISIES

Daisies, whether photographic, painted, digitally warped or presented atop an abstract texture, designers are finding fresh ways to serve up this classic vintage flower. For more examples of how runway designers are interpreting this trend, be sure to check out resort collections from Alice + Olivia and Nina Ricci in addition to the designers shown here.

    FOLK FAIRYTALE

Transitional print concept that spills over from Fall 2014, but with a lighter, more springlike color palette. One part floral, one part Ukrainian embroidery, with a dash of fairytale whimsy thrown in for good measure, these prints bring a fresh, bohemian take on a trend your Grandmother would likely adore. To keep things really authentic, make sure to include references to traditional embellishment techniques such as cross-stitch or beading.

    INNER CALM

Tucked away miles from civilization, the Inner Calm man and woman live in a minimalist wood cabin where they have created a cocoon atmosphere in their home and way of dress. Knit heavy, multiple textures play an important role with chunky yarns everywhere. Nature factors in not only with natural fibers, but with fur pelts and abstract motifs inspired by the world around them. Neutral colors to keep it clean yet warm, and minimalist lines add a subtle modern edge.

    CITY SLICKER

The ultimate urban dweller is at home in an active setting. Just like the city they inhabit, their metropolis surroundings are reflected in their lustrous surfaces, sharp silhouettes, plenty of contrasting details, and an underlying reference to sport. This head-to-toe look is a conversation that embraces the mineral sleekness of the city with dimensional andÊtechnical elements. This story is a celebration of the sport if lifestyle with a decidedly urbane approach.

    NORTHERN NARRATIVE

Old textile traditions emerge in design with decorative elements, creating a one-of-a-kind feel expressed by the Bloomsbury Set of intellectuals in London. Recalling the first half of the 20th century, the setting draws to mind the quarters of writer Virgina Woolf and painter Duncan Grant. A harmonious contrast occurs between folkloric stories and the surrounding environment, whether it be on anÊadventurous outing or upon return home. This story unfolds like family traditions that are carried from generation to generation, with a dreamy and adventurous spirit.

    KINGDOM

Uncharted territories, cozy corners, rustic surfaces, time-honored tribal traditions of the North, and tales untold of strong men and women, and their rugged adventures. Telling the story of a medieval romance, Kingdom is rooted in fairy tales coupled with a tough warrior reality and the will to conquer. With a harmonious contrast between pure air, aggressive barren surfaces, and enveloped green earth, this story is raw romance at its best.

FEATURE // TANYA KANCHEVA - FASHION DESIGNER

We are re-featuring talented Tanya Kancheva who is originally from Bulgaria and is currently living in the UK. She is about to finish her Master course in London's Chelsea College of Arts. She has always had a dream to have a Master degree in the Design field from such a fashion city as London is.

To learn more about Tanya, and to view her portfolio of amazing work, go you can view her site here.

As Tanya describes her experience…….  Living in a multicultural big city is so much fun for me. I see inspiration everywhere around me. I am surrounded by so many interesting places, people and things, so grabbing every day of them, I feel myself content.  Comparing people in Bulgaria and UK, people here are open minded, they don't follow rules dressing themselves in a nice decent way always....every day I see women wearing skirts with trainers or winter jackets with sandals.(Which I find a bit weird, because there are so many other nice and more appropriate options.) So, that's why I've started thinking to design fun, urban, multi color and multi wear jacket suitable exactly for these people.I thought to my self:"At least, lets try to show them how a sportswear jacket could match with high heels, however naturally, casually and not in a pretentious way".

About the project:
Make your own jacket
Inspired by everything around me, I find beauty in the unconventional. I love colours, Pop Art and the iconic style of Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol. Stepping on this base, I have created Multifunctional jacket, which can be further customized with a wide range of prints. The brilliance of the jacket is its concept - different print combinations and colours of the separate parts - all interchangeable.Made of 3,5mm thick neoprene fabric, the jacket is suitable for multi occasions. Wear it like any other jacket but when you need a quick change, unzip the sleeves and you got summer jacket and completely new look. It’s designed to stand out of the crowd with its bright colours and graphic bold lines. When the weather is cold, the wearer of the jacket would feel better, wearing a bright piece of clothing. A study about Colour Psychology shows the effects of colour on human’s mood, emotion, and behavior. That’s why I have decided to use 3 key colors, which will boost the wearer’s spirit: Blue for freedom, Yellow for optimism and Black for sophistication.
